A Neighborhood School Where
Kindergarteners Belong—and Thrive
All the care of a small school, with the stability, services,
and long-term strength of a public one.
At Atkinson School, you student will:
-
Join a warm, welcoming school community where Kindergarten families quickly feel known, supported, and connected through strong family relationships, an active PTA, and a joyful bike bus.
-
Learn in a diverse, inclusive environment—38% Latino—where neighborhood and Dual Language Immersion classrooms come together for music, art, PE, and library, helping young children build friendships across the entire school.
-
Have access to early, comprehensive evaluations and individualized supports in speech, occupational therapy, mental health, learning differences, and dyslexia—so children get what they need right from the start.
-
Be taught by excellent, experienced Kindergarten and primary-grade teachers who differentiate instruction to support every learner, including children who need extra support and those who are academically advanced.
-
Benefit from a strong counseling program grounded in the Caring School Communities curriculum, helping young learners develop empathy, emotional skills, and a sense of belonging, with opportunities to connect through cross-age buddies.
-
Experience a safe, nurturing school culture that prioritizes kindness and respect, where concerns are addressed promptly and children feel secure coming to school each day.
-
Thrive under stable, trusted leadership, led by a principal with over six years at Atkinson and more than fifteen years of experience as a school principal—providing consistency families can count on.
-
Attend a school with a strong reputation—so trusted that many educators, including the principal, chose Atkinson for their own children.
-
Build lasting friendships for both children and parents, creating a sense of community that grows with your family year after year.
-
Be prepared not just for first grade, but for long-term success in the strong middle and high schools in our neighborhood—without re-enrolling, re-applying, or re-starting elsewhere.
